From what age can I undergo a facelift?
The majority of patients are between 45 and 65 years old, although a
facelift can be carried out successfully on those older than 65. The
most important thing is not the age of the patient, it is the condition
of the patient’s skin as this procedure is aimed at people with aged
skin, flaccidity and wrinkles.
Does the facial expression change after a face lift?
No. This surgery allows the removal of excess skin and the reposition
of the facial muscles, but your surgeon will always try to achieve the
patient's natural expression. It is true to say that there are many
famous people (actresses, singers etc.) that have an artificial facial
expression but that is as a consequence of the abuse of facial surgery.
It is not a result of the procedure itself.
I am a smoker, can this affect the final result of this procedure?
Yes. Smoking affects the healing of any scarring and it also slows
down the postoperative recovery. Therefore before undergoing any plastic
surgery procedures, especially to do with the face, you should reduce
to the least amount of cigarettes possible, or even better, stop
entirely.
How long do the results last for?
The results do not have an expiry date as a facelift can not stop the
clock. Your face will continue to age with the passing of time but your
aspect will always appear younger than the age you actually are.
After the operation, how will I feel?
Normally everyone who undergoes this intervention will get tired very
easily. Because of this we recommend that you have someone to look after
you for the days following the operation. Another point to note is that
your facial aspect will not be as you hoped for: your face may
experience swelling and bruising and the skin will also be numb. But
after a few days you will look better. Patients normally return to work
after 10-14 days.
